Lightning GT EV on schedule for 2010 launch

The British answer to the Tesla Roadster is on track for the projected 2010 launch.

After being unveiled at the last London Motor Show, the Lightning GT electric sports car is heading for the next stage of development next year, reports MotorAuthority.

The Lightning team is said to be working on two additional prototypes to be built in 2009, aiming to eventually deliver the first production cars to their customers by 2010.

However, any exact details on the specs are yet to be announced, and according to the report, the financing of the project is not finalized either, making the 2010 launch date a potential "push-back" candidate.

Some of the known details include a 700hp (522kW) electric powertrain featuring nano-titanate battery technology, which is claimed to product enough power to accelerate the car from 0-60 mph in only four seconds, while reaching a top speed of no less than 130 mph.
