Porsche Panamera debut delayed, now set for Shanghai

Porsche has delayed the debut of its new 4-door super sedan Panamera.

Originally scheduled to debut at the Geneva Auto Show, the official unveiling was slightly delayed and will now take place at the Shanghai Auto Show a month later.

The reason for this decision is said to be the growing importance of the Chinese automobile market, as well as the surrounding Asian markets in general. Porsche sold 8,190 vehicles in China in fiscal 2007-2008, more than twice as many as in the previous year, according to AutoWeek.

Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking was quoted saying that he hopes for "new market opportunities" and a "stronger presence" in regions like China and the Middle East.
